Ed Vickery died peacefully at age 87 on April 29, 2010. Ed was born in Fort Worth, Texas, and was a 1948 honors graduate of the University of Texas Law School.  He joined the law firm of Royston & Rayzor out of law school.  In his early years with the firm, he worked closely with late Judge John R. Brown before he left the Firm to join the Fifth Circuit. Judge Brown and Ed remained close friends.  For many years, Ed served as the managing partner of Royston Rayzor, which later became known as Royston, Rayzor, Vickery & Williams. Ed was a skilled and tenacious advocate and a man of integrity. He was instrumental in the drafting of the 1972 amendments to the Longshore and Harbor Workers Compensation Act and argued several cases before the U.S. Supreme Court.  After becoming Of Counsel to Royston Rayzor, Ed devoted himself to his family's banking business and to the Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary, on whose board he served for many years. Ed was an outstanding lawyer and a great teacher and mentor to the younger lawyers of his firm.  Ed Vickery will be remembered as one of the outstanding maritime lawyers of his generation.
