Eight Royston Attorneys named 2014 Rising Stars by Super Lawyers magazine

Jim Thompson, Robert L. Guerra, Jr., Kelly Haas, Jay T. Huffman, Erick Lucio, Christine Raborn, Philip Snyder and Michael Streich of Royston Rayzor Vickery & Williams, L.L.P. have been selected for inclusion in the 2014 Texas Rising Stars edition of Super Lawyers® magazine. The complete list of lawyers selected for inclusion will appear in the April 2014 edition of Texas Monthly magazine and in a standalone publication.

Jim Thompson is a Partner in the firm’s Houston Office.  His practice focuses primarily on litigation in the fields of commercial litigation, intellectual property, products liability, toxic torts and general insurance defense in both state and federal courts.  He is AV Preeminent rated by Martindale-Hubbell and was previously selected as a Rising Star in 2013.  Thompson is a graduate of the business school at the University of Texas at Austin and South Texas College of Law.

Robert L. Guerra, Jr. is a Partner in the firm’s Brownsville office.  His statewide defense practice covers a variety of areas, from personal injury to commercial litigation and professional liability.  Guerra has successfully obtained defense verdicts for his clients in venues throughout Plaintiff-friendly South Texas.  Guerra currently serves a Director for the Cameron County Bar Association.  Guerra is a graduate of Rice University and Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law. 

Kelly Haas is a Partner in the firm’s Galveston office.  Her practice involves litigation of civil cases pending in both state and federal courts involving admiralty and maritime law, collisions, personal injury defense, commercial transactions, insurance coverage and toxic tort matters.  She is AV Preeminent rated by Martindale-Hubbell and is currently on the board of the following organizations: the Southeastern Admiralty Law Institute;  Houston Mariner’s Club; and the Galveston County Bar Association; and is also the chairman of the District 5 Panel  2 State Bar of Texas Grievance Committee.  Haas is a graduate of Trinity University and South Texas College of Law.

Jay T. Huffman is a Partner in the firm’s Houston office and was previously selected as a Rising Star in 2012 and 2013. His practice focuses primarily on the fields of admiralty and maritime law, personal injury defense, and general insurance defense in state and federal courts, as well as arbitration and mediation forums. He is AV Preeminent rated by Martindale-Hubbell and is currently the President of the Southern District of Texas Chapter of the Federal Bar Association.  Huffman is a graduate of the United States Military Academy and Baylor School of Law.

Erick Lucio is a Partner in the firm’s Brownsville office.  His practice involves representing a broad range of institutions, businesses, individuals and insurers in South Texas. Lucio’s emphasis is on the defense of claims resulting from construction defects, commercial disputes, personal injury and transportation related accidents.  Lucio represents clients in state and federal courts, as well as arbitration and mediation forums, and provides pre- and post-litigation risk avoidance analysis and counseling. Lucio is a graduate of St. Mary’s University and the Texas Tech University School of Law.

Christine Raborn is an Associate in the firm’s Houston office.  She represents clients in state and federal court, at the trial and appellate level, and in international arbitration.  She has experience litigating a broad range of matters, including insurance coverage, commercial, maritime, employment, and intellectual property disputes.  Prior to joining the firm, Raborn served as a law clerk for the Honorable U.S. Magistrate Judge Mary Milloy of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas. Raborn is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Texas School of Law.

Philip Snyder is a Partner in the firm’s San Antonio office.  His practice involves representing a wide range of institutions, individuals, companies, and insurers in civil litigation throughout the state of Texas.  The majority of his practice is personal injury defense, with a focus on defending oil and gas companies in personal injury lawsuits.  He also represents clients in matters pertaining to construction defect, premises liability, commercial litigation, and maritime disputes.  Snyder graduated with honors from Harvard University and received his law degree from the University of Texas at Austin.

Michael Streich is an Associate in the firm’s Houston office.  His practice focuses primarily on admiralty and energy related litigation in trial courts and at arbitration proceedings. He has represented clients across a broad range of disputes within these areas, including vessel allisions, air and sea cargo claims, patent infringement, personal injury, and premises liability claims. Streich is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Houston Law Center.

Super Lawyers based its Rising Stars selections on lawyer nominations, general public nominations, and 12 indicators of peer recognition and professional achievement. Rising Stars are selected from lawyers who are 40 years old or younger or who have been practicing for 10 years or less.
