Unanimous Defense Verdict in South Texas for Royston Rayzor!
PDFCongratulations to lead counsel, Javier Gonzalez and second chair co-counsel, Shauna Lozano, who recently obtained a unanimous defense verdict in Brooks County, Texas after a six-day jury trial in a tire failure case. Plaintiff sought $3.151 million from the jury, and they unanimously found no liability for our client!
The case involved alleged wildfire damages to a ranch. The driver for Defendant had a tire blowout and pulled to the side of the road. After noticing a fire starting in the distance behind the vehicle, the driver and crew made efforts to put out the fire with fire extinguishers. The fire proceeded to burn over an approximate 500+ acres of the ranch (811 acres). Plaintiff, the owner of the ranch, sued for negligence and causing the fire. Plaintiff alleged the rim of the wheel threw sparks onto the side of the road causing the fire. At issue were the following damages: the replacement of trees, white-tailed deer, exotic animals, fencing, and loss of use of the property. The Plaintiff presented a total damage model of $3.15 million. The jury unanimously found no liability on Defendant.
